Following his LL.M. in the Netherlands, he completed an internship at a United Nations based International Organisation called the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague, in the office of the Legal Advisor.

Upon his return to South Africa, he was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa on 28 March 2013 and thereafter practised as an independent Advocate for 9
months before enrolling for his pupillage training at the Johannesburg Society of
Advocates which commenced in January 2014 and was completed at the end of 2014.

Schalk was one of only 15 pupils at the jhb Bar who passed the August 2014 General

from oral examinations.

He possesses a genuine interest and understanding of the principles that encompass both national and international legal and political orders and his practise areas revolve mainly around private law litigation in the fields listed above, including trial advocacy.
