Michael’s practice adopts a unique perspective in dissecting nuanced legal issues. Through clinical assessment and preparation, Michael’s practice ensures meticulous and thorough solutions, tailored to address each case’s complexities.
Before accepting the call to the Bar, Michael practiced as a litigation attorney. For almost half a decade, he was instructed on various intricate legal issues, ranging from diverse corporate and commercial litigation to constitutional law.
Early in his career, Michael refined his litigation technique by formulating and arguing complex legal matters in various courts throughout the Republic of South Africa. In 2020, Michael was appointed Inhouse Counsel: Specialised Litigation to a prominent law firm. Within a year, he was appointed head of litigation, directly responsible for most of the firm’s complex litigation in the High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, and the Constitutional Court.
Through this, Michael developed acute skills to address nuanced legal issues that require extraordinary solutions, inceptive outcome-based strategy, and clinical preparation. Michael has represented and advised multinational entities (both private and listed) with foreign and domestic interests. He has also represented and advised various governmental entities at national, provincial, and municipal levels, including various regulatory bodies and administrators. While an attorney, Michael was at the forefront of conceptualizing, drafting, and formulating provincial and municipal laws, which remain implemented by various executive bodies and have widespread regulatory implications for multinational, private, and listed commerce.
Michael’s expertise was born from the workings of administrative law and spans the commercial sphere, addressing most classes of civil liabilities, including shareholder disputes, director’s liability proceedings, insolvency-related disputes, and actions underpinned by commerce and related litigation from intersectional transactions.
Michael typically accepts instructions for opposed motion advocacy, the running of and successful prosecution of trials, advanced trial advocacy in general, and appellate litigation.

- Acting for and advising a provincial regulator in judicial review proceedings involving the conduct of JSE-listed entities and their compliance with intricate regulatory obligations apropos gambling law.
- Acting for and advising erstwhile shareholders of a renowned corporate entity with permutations to National Healthcare.
- Acting for and advising provincial government on issues relating to tender and procurement legality with intersections in contract, delict, and constitutional remedies.
- Acting for and advising a municipality in disputes pertaining to township planning with a large corporate developer, with intersections in contract and administrative law.
- Acting for and advising multi-national entities on regulatory requirements with the South African Reserve Bank and Prudential Authority.
- Acting for and advising private companies on the legalities of state procurement procedures involving claims of more than R100 000 000.00.
- Acting for and advising private companies on dispute resolution processes with multinational and dominant mining permit holders, against the backdrop of the Mining Charter.
- Acting for and advising private companies on issues relating to the corporate dominance of larger multinational corporations, related to governmental regulations by the South African Government and the European Union.
- Acting for and advising coal and platinum mining entities in respect of acquisitions, shareholding, director-liability related claims, and regulatory implications.
- Acting for a domestic entity in defending a claim instituted by a multinational entity relating to trademark and competition law.
